About Richard Hy
Richard K. Hy is a partner with Claggett & Sykes and works on the firm’s mass torts and class action team.
Over his career, he has represented government entities pursuing multi-billion-dollar claims against corporate defendants, helped to secure hundreds of millions of dollars in global settlements for thousands of victims of catastrophic events, and obtained significant relief in consumer protection matters involving major technology and credit reporting issues. His work also spans high-profile cases of product and premises liability, as well as sensitive matters involving sexual misconduct and privacy breaches—many of which have resulted in substantial or confidential settlements. Through strategic advocacy and an unwavering commitment to his clients, Richard has established himself as a formidable litigator in some of the nation’s most complex and consequential disputes, including representing the State of Nevada in its opioid litigation and victims of the Rt. 91 festival mass shooting.
In addition to his courtroom work, Richard collaborates closely with the Nevada Justice Association when the Nevada Legislature is in session, advocating for legislation that protects consumers from deceptive trade practices, misleading advertising, and unsafe products. During the 2017 Legislative Session, he played a key role in drafting revisions to NRS 482A, commonly referred to as the “Autonomous Vehicles” statute. Earlier in his career, Richard served at the Office of the Nevada Secretary of State, where he was appointed Deputy Secretary of State and oversaw election administration, campaign finance enforcement, candidate filings, and legislative affairs. One of his predecessors in that role was Samuel L. Clemens—better known by his pen name, Mark Twain.
